Western University

Club Description

For too long, students at Western University were unable to find a creative writing club. That's why the Spoken Word Society was founded in 2019 to be a place for students to bond over the power of creation and language.

In 2021, they have decided to change the club name to better reflect the varied interests of our members and the many types of creative writing out there. They want all writers to feel welcome and to find a space here. They're excited to create, share, and discover writing penned by Western students!

They host weekly workshops, designed not only to help you learn more about the craft of writing but also to get writing and receive feedback. Evenings usually feature a short presentation and a few writing prompts, with members given you time to write, and present at the end of meetings.

So far this year, they have also hosted several online poetry open mic nights. While Zoom may be a limitation, it has also allowed them to connect with students from other universities across the country for the performing and sharing of poetry.

Spoken word lends itself to sharing, welcoming all members of Western's creative community.
