Club Description

UBC Slam is an AMS affiliated club for poets, donut enthusiasts and members of the community interested in slam poetry, holding performances every biweekly on Fridays at The Boulevard Coffee Roasting Co.

Born in September 2009, UBC Slam Poetry was the brainchild of two crazy poets who thought it'd be great to bring spoken word to the campus of UBC. In the years since, their small community has grown. With biweekly shows and writing workshops, UBC Slam Poetry has flourished and has been able to represent at national festivals. Representing UBC Slam Poetry at the Canadian Individual Poetry Slam in 2011 was Francis Arevalo, followed by Mike Johnston in 2012, Sebastien Wen in 2013, Mariah Lynne Dear in 2014, Jaime Silverthorn in 2016, and Savannah Pulfer in 2017.
